TubeBuddy Alternatives: Pick by the Job You Need Done
Published October 26, 2026 · Prices and features checked on each vendor's own site on October 26, 2026 · Written by the IdeaPhantom team (we make one of the tools below)
TubeBuddy bundles several jobs into one toolkit (a browser extension plus a web app), so the right alternative depends on which job you want covered. For video ideas: IdeaPhantom (ideas built from channels you pick), 1of10 or vidIQ. For keyword and tag research: vidIQ. For title and thumbnail tests: YouTube Studio's free built-in A/B test. For competitor analytics: ViewStats. No single tool below replaces all of TubeBuddy.
Who this comparison is for
Creators who use or are weighing TubeBuddy and want to know what else does the job, especially the “what should I make next?” job. We make IdeaPhantom, so we're biased. To keep it fair, every price and feature below comes from the vendor's own pages, opened on October 26, 2026, with links so you can check them. Where we couldn't verify a price, we don't quote one, and that includes TubeBuddy's.
What TubeBuddy does well
- Paid plans Pro and Legend, plus Enterprise with custom pricing. Some visits to the pricing page showed only Legend and Enterprise.
- Mostly channel-management and SEO tools: keyword and tag research, bulk editing, A/B testing, thumbnail and title tools.
- "Next Video Ideas" (in beta): analyzes your channel's videos, performance and comments, plus an optional "niche" (a group of channels you add), and returns a ranked list of ideas showing the signals behind each one, such as niche outliers, keyword competition and audience match.
- Next Video Ideas limits, per TubeBuddy's Help Center: 3 generations a month on Pro and Star, 15 on Legend; the pricing page lists unlimited on Enterprise. Its Help Center says paid plans only, while the tool page says every plan, so check before you rely on the free plan.
- A standard license covers one YouTube channel. 30-day refund policy.
Price: Its pricing page showed different plans and prices on different visits on the days we checked (for example two different monthly prices for Legend), so we don't quote one. See their pricing page. (TubeBuddy pricing, checked October 26, 2026).
Our view: TubeBuddy is strongest as a workflow tool inside YouTube Studio: tags, SEO checks, bulk edits and testing. Its Next Video Ideas tool is the newest part, still in beta, and it starts from your own channel. If that's the part you're here for, the idea-focused alternatives below are worth a look.

1. IdeaPhantom: video ideas from the channels you pick
Full disclosure: this is our tool. IdeaPhantom does one job. You add the channels you follow, admire or compete with; it analyzes their recent uploads to find which topics and formats attract views, and returns 10–25 original ideas per run, each with a title, a hook and a description. The channels don't have to be in your niche: niche transfer mode takes formats from one niche and generates ideas for another.
- Price: Lite $7/month (30 ideas/week); Pro $15/month (75 ideas/week); Ultra $24/month (150 ideas/week); Phantom $35/month (250 ideas/week). Every plan includes projects and niche transfer; Phantom is unlimited with your own API key. Cancel anytime.
- Free option: no free plan. The free tools on this site run in your browser without an account.
- Not for: tags, SEO scores, bulk edits, A/B tests or analytics of your own channel. It doesn't replace those parts of TubeBuddy.
- Versus Next Video Ideas: both use other channels as input. TubeBuddy starts from your own channel's history and comments; IdeaPhantom starts from the channels you choose, which helps when your channel is new or you're moving into another niche.
Here's IdeaPhantom sample output from our home page (Storytelling):
The Stranger Who Saved My Life Then Disappeared Without a Trace
Tell a personal or crowd-sourced story with a mysterious resolution. Layer in suspense techniques from film to keep viewers hooked until the final reveal.
“He pulled me from the wreck, said three words, and vanished. I've been looking for him ever since.”

2. vidIQ: the closest all-round replacement
- Free plan: 150 AI credits a month, niche trends, content ideas and AI Coach growth tips.
- Boost: 2,000 AI credits a month, personalized ideas, unlimited trends research, thumbnails and optimization tools.
- MAX: 6,000 AI credits a month and everything in Boost.
- A free AI video ideas generator that works from a niche or topic you type; vidIQ says its ideas come from trending topics and the keywords your audience searches.
- vidIQ MCP (use vidIQ inside Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools) on every plan, including Free.
- Enterprise plans for more than 3 channels or teams, and a 1-on-1 coaching plan.
Price: Boost $19/month or $199/year; MAX $49/month or $468/year (one-channel US list prices; local pricing may vary) (vidIQ pricing, checked October 26, 2026).
Our view: if you want one subscription that covers keyword research, trends and ideas the way TubeBuddy does, vidIQ is the usual switch. Its ideas start from a niche or topic and trending keywords rather than from channels you pick. More in our vidIQ alternatives comparison.
3. 1of10: outlier research plus AI creation tools
- Free plan: 60 credits a month, 1 connected channel, research tools limited (for example 5 outlier search results).
- Basic: 150 credits a month, up to 3 channels. Pro: 1,000 credits a month, unlimited channels, MCP and API access.
- AI title and idea generator: 8 credits per title or idea run, per the pricing page. Research tools (outlier search, thumbnail search, trending formats, competitor tracking) never use credits.
- The idea generator works from your channel or any competitor channel you enter. Its FAQ says there's no limit on ideas, while the pricing page lists a credit cost per run.
- Also an AI thumbnail generator and an AI video editor, on the same credits.
- 7-day money-back guarantee.
Price: Basic $19/month or $180/year; Pro $89/month or $828/year; Ultra $4,999/year (yearly only) (1of10 pricing, checked October 26, 2026).
Our view: pick 1of10 if you want to search YouTube for outlier videos and also make thumbnails and edits in the same tool. It doesn't cover TubeBuddy's tag and bulk-edit side. More in our 1of10 alternatives comparison.
4. ViewStats: competitor and niche analytics
- Positioned as a YouTube analytics suite: compare your performance against competitors, track your niche and spot the formats and ideas that get clicks.
- Business plan for teams and agencies, starting at $249/month.
Price: Pro is shown in your local currency only, so we don't quote a dollar price. Business starts at $249/month. See their pricing page. (ViewStats pricing, checked October 26, 2026).
Our view: ViewStats suits creators who want to watch competitors' numbers closely. Turning that data into ideas is still your job.
5. The free route: YouTube Studio plus the top-channel method
Several TubeBuddy jobs now have a free version inside YouTube itself, or on this site:
- Title and thumbnail tests: YouTube Studio can A/B test up to 3 titles and thumbnails on desktop, and picks the winner by watch time. You need advanced features turned on, and Shorts aren't eligible (YouTube Help).
- Which channels your viewers also watch: the Analytics Audience tab, once your channel has enough audience data (YouTube Help).
- Video ideas: the manual method in our guide on how to find YouTube video ideas from top channels, with the free competitor analysis template, outlier score calculator and video ideas generator.
- Lost the Inspiration tab? Read what replaced it.
How to choose
Our view, by the job you actually need done:
- Tags, bulk edits and upload workflow: stay with TubeBuddy.
- Keywords, trends and coaching in one subscription: vidIQ.
- Ideas from specific competitor or top channels, or formats from another niche: IdeaPhantom.
- Outlier search plus thumbnails and editing: 1of10.
- Watching competitors' numbers: ViewStats.
- Only title and thumbnail tests: YouTube Studio's free A/B test.

FAQ
Is TubeBuddy free?
TubeBuddy has a free plan: its pricing FAQ says a cancelled paid license is downgraded to the free plan. On October 26, 2026 its Help Center listed Next Video Ideas for paid plans during the beta (3 generations a month on Pro and Star, 15 on Legend), while its tool page said every plan, so check before you count on it.
How much does TubeBuddy cost?
We don't quote a price. On October 26, 2026 TubeBuddy's pricing page showed different plans and prices on different visits (one version showed only Legend and Enterprise, another Pro and Legend, with two different monthly prices for Legend). Check https://www.tubebuddy.com/pricing for the price shown to you. Enterprise has custom pricing, and TubeBuddy lists a 30-day refund policy.
What's the best free alternative to TubeBuddy?
Our view: YouTube Studio itself covers more than it used to. It has a built-in A/B test for up to 3 titles and thumbnails, and the Audience tab can show other channels your viewers watch. For video ideas, the manual top-channel method plus our free competitor analysis template, outlier score calculator and video ideas generator cost nothing. vidIQ and 1of10 also have free plans with limits.
TubeBuddy or vidIQ?
Both are broad YouTube toolkits with keyword research and idea tools. TubeBuddy leans on browser-extension workflow and bulk editing; vidIQ leans on trends, an AI Coach and AI credits. On October 26, 2026 vidIQ listed Boost $19/month or $199/year; MAX $49/month or $468/year (one-channel US list prices; local pricing may vary); TubeBuddy's price wasn't stable enough to quote. If you mainly want ideas, compare both with a tool built only for ideas.
TubeBuddy Next Video Ideas or IdeaPhantom?
Both use other channels as input. Next Video Ideas starts from your own channel (videos, performance, comments) plus an optional niche of channels you add, inside the TubeBuddy toolkit, with monthly generation limits. IdeaPhantom only does ideas: you pick the channels (in your niche or another one), and each run returns 10-25 ideas with titles, hooks and descriptions, with a weekly idea allowance from $7/month. It doesn't do SEO, tags or bulk edits (our view, and we make IdeaPhantom).
What is niche transfer?
Taking a format that works in one niche and using it in another. In IdeaPhantom it's a mode: "It lets you borrow formats from other niches. Analyze fitness channels but generate ideas for your cooking channel. Same proven structures, completely different topic."
