YouTube Video Ideas for Finance Channels
Published October 26, 2026 · Autocomplete checked October 26, 2026 · By the IdeaPhantom team
Finance ideas work best when they're for a specific person in a specific situation: a student, someone on their first salary, a family on a tight budget, someone near retirement. Pick that audience, look at 5–10 finance channels that serve them, and note which formats beat each channel's usual views. Then separate news-driven outliers (tax season, rate decisions) from formats you can use any month, and check every fact for your viewers' country.
The general method is in our guide on how to find YouTube video ideas from top channels; this page applies it to finance. Still choosing a niche? Start with YouTube niche research.
What finance creators search for
Real suggestions from Google and YouTube autocomplete (US English) on October 26, 2026. Autocomplete shows that people search these phrases, not how many people do.
- “finance youtube video ideas”
- “finance video ideas”
- “finance video topics”
- “personal finance video ideas”
- “how to start a finance youtube channel”
- “finance youtube channel ideas”
- “finance faceless youtube channel”
Fewer suggestions than gaming or cooking, but clearly from people planning finance channels: topics, how to start, and faceless finance. The faceless side is covered by Elevate, linked below.
Video idea angles for finance channels
Pick one angle and stay with it for a while. Each comes with a few idea seeds we wrote for this page: starting points to test, not finished titles.
One life stage
"Finance" is too broad. Money questions change completely between a student, a new parent and someone close to retirement.
- Your first salary: what to do in the first 90 days
- Money moves before your first child
- The questions to answer five years before retiring
Budget challenges
A challenge turns budgeting into a story with a result.
- A month on a strict grocery budget
- I tracked every cent for 30 days
- No-spend week: what I actually missed
Explainers in plain language
Viewers search for terms they don't understand. Plain language is the value.
- Index funds explained without jargon
- What a credit score is actually measuring
- The fine print of a buy-now-pay-later plan
News, decoded
New rules and rate changes make people search, and a calm explainer stands out (our view).
- The new rule everyone's sharing: what it actually says
- What a rate change means for your mortgage
- Tax season changes that affect you this year
Money psychology
Habits and behaviour aren't country-specific, so they travel well.
- Why tracking spending feels so hard (and what helps)
- The spending habit that feels responsible but isn't
- How I stopped checking my investments every day
Tools and accounts, tested
Comparisons and tests answer a decision people are about to make.
- I used three budgeting methods for a month each
- Cheap vs. expensive financial advice
- What I learned reading my bank's terms
Find finance ideas that already work: the top-channel method
- Pick channels for the same audience and country. A US retirement channel and a UK student-money channel aren't competing for the same viewers. Pick 5–10 channels of different sizes that serve your audience in your country and log them in the competitor analysis template.
- Sort by Popular and mark the news-driven videos. Tax deadlines, rate decisions and new rules create spikes. Mark outliers that sit on a news date. They show what your audience reacts to, but plan your channel around the formats that also win in quiet months.
- Score outliers per channel. Use the outlier score calculator on each channel's recent uploads. A small channel with a plain-language explainer at several times its usual views tells you more than a famous channel's average video.
- Note the format and the promise. Finance titles usually carry a promise (save, avoid, understand). Write down the format (challenge, explainer, comparison) and the promise separately, then count which pairs repeat across channels.
- Check what's out of date. Finance videos age quickly when rules change. Old outliers on topics where the rules have since changed are gaps: an accurate, dated version can be the better answer.
Free tools for these steps: the YouTube competitor analysis template (log channels and outliers), the outlier score calculator (views divided by the channel's median), the content gap guide (confirm the gap) and the content calendar template (put the winners on dates).
Formats that suit finance channels
| Format | Example title pattern | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Budget challenge | I Lived on a Strict Budget for 30 Days | Show the real numbers at the end. |
| Plain-language explainer | Index Funds Explained Without the Jargon | Date the video and say which country it applies to. |
| Myths vs. facts | Money Myths You Can Stop Believing | Back every fact with an official or reputable source. |
| Mistakes to avoid | 7 Money Mistakes in Your First Job | Works best for one life stage. |
| News decoded | The New Rule Everyone Is Sharing: What It Actually Says | Speed matters; accuracy matters more. |
| Comparison test | I Tried 3 Budgeting Methods for a Month Each | Your own results are the value. |
| What I wish I knew | What I Wish I Knew About Money at 22 | Personal and evergreen. |
Example titles are patterns we wrote; swap in your own topic. YouTube titles can be up to 100 characters (YouTube Help), but shorter is safer in search results.
Hook lines to adapt
The first seconds decide whether people stay. Examples we wrote for finance videos:
- “This one setting in your bank app is costing more than you think. Here's how to check.”
- “I tracked every cent for 30 days. The biggest leak wasn't what I expected.”
- “Everyone's sharing this new rule. I read the actual text so you don't have to.”
- “If you're under 30, there's one money decision that matters more than the rest.”
- “I asked three people with very different incomes to show me their budgets.”
Borrow formats from other niches
Formats that are common elsewhere but rare in finance are often the freshest ideas (our view). IdeaPhantom calls this niche transfer.
- From fitness: 30-day challenges become budget and no-spend challenges with a tracked result.
- From news: "What the headline says vs. what the text says" explainers, applied to money rules.
- From cooking: Cheap vs. expensive tests: budget vs. premium bank accounts, apps or advice.

Mistakes to avoid
- Giving advice that only holds in one country without saying so. Say where it applies.
- Old facts. Rules, limits and rates change; date your videos and update or pin corrections.
- Promising returns. Show your method and your results; don't promise viewers theirs.
- Copying a news outlier weeks later, when the moment has passed.

FAQ
What are good finance video topics for beginners?
Pick one audience and answer their first questions: budgeting a first salary, how a credit score works, what an index fund is, how to start an emergency fund. Check each topic in YouTube autocomplete with your audience's words, and say which country the video applies to.
How do I start a finance YouTube channel without being an expert?
Document instead of lecture: challenges, experiments and explainers where you show your sources. Say clearly that it's education, not financial advice, and cite the official source for every rule or number. Our view: honesty about what you know builds more trust than pretending.
Can a finance channel be faceless?
Autocomplete shows people asking about faceless finance channels. Explainers and news breakdowns work with screen recordings, charts and voice-over. Elevate covers the faceless side, including what it says about finance RPMs, in the guides linked on this page.
